The Master Files from the Household Component of the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS-HC) contain person-level data covering the calendar year. Each file contains respondents from two subsequent panels, with MEPS survey data obtained in Rounds 3, 4, and 5 of the panel in its second year and Rounds 1, 2, and 3 of the panel in its first year.

The files contain the following variables:
Demographic variables not publicly released
Fully specified industry and occupation codes allowing a worker's industry and occupation to be identified with greater specificity.
Health insurance variables not publicly released
Health status variables not publicly released
Income variables not publicly released, including pre-top coded hourly wage (Are the other income variables on this file pre-top coded?)
Unique person identifiers and survey administration variables
Weight and variance estimation variables

The Geographic Master Files from the Household Component of the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS-HC) contain person-level data covering the calendar year. Each file contains respondents from two subsequent panels, with MEPS survey data obtained in Rounds 3, 4, and 5 of the panel in its second year and Rounds 1, 2, and 3 of the panel in its first year.

The files contain geographic variables, including the following:
State and County FIPS Codes that can be used to merge data from the Area Health Resources Files, or any data at the State and/or County level, onto the MEPS data.
Census Tract and Block-Group Codes: These codes can be used to merge data from the U.S. Census, or any data at the tract or block-group level, onto the MEPS data.

The Stat Brief Stub Files contain standard categorical variables used to define rows and columns in stat brief tables.

The Task Analytic Files are files used to perform analyses primarily in findings papers.

The Miscellaneous Data Center Files are files at the data center not falling into the categories above.
