Question: Does the DUPERSID variable uniquely identify a person in the MEPS survey?

Within any year of MEPS data DUPERSID uniquely identifies respondents. However, if you are pooling years of MEPS data prior to 2018, you must use a combination of PANEL and DUPERSID to uniquely identify observations because some DUPERSID values have been used in multiple years. Starting in 2018 DUPERSID includes PANEL so there is no need to combine PANEL and DUPERSID to uniquely identify observations across years from 2018 and beyond.
