Workshops

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) conducts several workshops throughout the year. These workshops provide extended knowledge about MEPS data, practical information about usage of MEPS public use data files and an opportunity to construct analytic files with the assistance of AHRQ staff. The workshops are designed for health services researchers who have a background or interest in using national health surveys. A registration is required to attend MEPS workshops. MEPS-HC Data Users' Hands-on Workshop

This workshop will consist of lectures designed to provide a general overview of the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey-Household Component (MEPS-HC) in addition to lectures on MEPS-HC survey design, recent survey changes, health care utilization, expenditures, medical conditions, and statistical issues and challenges researchers face while analyzing MEPS-HC data. There will also be three separate hands-on sessions (STATA/R/SAS) in which exercises will be demonstrated to teach how to use MEPS data for research. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions related to their individual research.

Please note that to attend any Hands-on session, registration in the MEPS-HC Data Users' Workshop is REQUIRED. Participants may choose to attend MEPS-HC Data Users' Workshop only, without attending any Hands-on sessions. If desired, participants may attend one or more Hands-on sessions. A separate registration is required for each session.

Agenda: March 28th @ 11am-3:30 pm EDT and March 29th @ 11am-1pm EDT - Lectures consisting of MEPS topics, including overview, sample and survey design, data collection, survey changes due to COVID, conditions, prescribed medicines, insurance, data tools, and considerations for conducting analysis using MEPS-HC.

  • March 30th @ 1:30 pm-3:30 pm EDT - Work with the instructor to go over example exercises to generate MEPS estimates using SAS. Register HERE

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Center for Financing, Access, and Cost Trends (CFACT) conducts several webinars throughout the year. These webinars consist of a variety of MEPS topics designed for individuals interested in doing research using MEPS data. A registration is required to attend MEPS webinars.
