Research Findings #27: Health Care Expenditures for Uncomplicated Pregnancies

Update number #1: 10/29/07

The following changes have been made on page 3:

– In the bulleted item at top of the page, “Nearly all women” has been changed to “Over 90 percent of women.”
– In the last paragraph, second sentence, “Almost all women” has been changed to “About 9 of every 10 women.”
– In the last paragraph, fourth sentence, “Only 23 percent” has been changed to “Only 22 percent.”

The following changes have been made on page 4:

– In the third complete sentence from the top of the page, “Over two-thirds” has been changed to “About two-thirds,” and “(71 percent)” has been changed to “(67 percent).”

Estimates and corresponding standard errors for percent with expense were modified and a footnote was added in table 4 on page 7:
– The percentage of all women with an office-based expense has been changed from 97.5 percent to 91.9 percent and the standard error from 0.8 to 1.2
– The percentage of all women with a prescription medicine expense has been changed from 23.3 percent to 22.0 percent and the standard error from 2.0 to 1.8.
– The percentage of all women with other expenses has been changed from 71.3 percent to 67.3 percent.
– The percentage of privately insured women with an office-based expense has been changed from 97.1 percent to 92.5 percent and the standard error from 1.1 to 1.6.
– The percentage of privately insured women with a prescription medicine expense has been changed from 24.4 percent to 23.2 percent and the standard error from 2.7 to 2.6.
– The percentage of privately insured women with other expenses has been changed from 74.0 percent to 70.6 percent and the standard error from 2.3 to 2.5.
– The percentage of women with Medicaid with an office-based expense has been changed from 98.4 percent to 90.1 percent and the standard error from 1.6 to 2.6.
– The percentage of women with Medicaid with a prescription medicine expense has been changed from 21.9 percent to 20.0 percent and the standard error from 4.1 to 3.7.
– The percentage of women with Medicaid with other expenses has been changed 67.2 percent to 61.6 percent and the standard error from 4.7 to 4.6.
– Footnote b has been added: Women without expenses include those with no service as well as those who received services for which no payments were made by any source.
