Number and Percentage of the Population with Any Dental or Medical Visits by Insurance Coverage and Geographic Area, 2019 |
Description: |
|
Over the past two decades, U.S. policymakers have made a concerted effort to address disparities in access to oral healthcare and reduce total system costs through the integration of oral and other medical care delivery. This statistical brief uses data from the 2019 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey-Household Component (MEPS-HC) to estimate the percentage of persons with any dental or medical visits and to explore differences across health insurance coverage categories and various sociodemographic groups, including age, sex, race/ethnicity, and census region. The authors also present some regional and state-level estimates for the percentage of persons with dental and medical visits by health insurance coverage categories between 2017 and 2019, providing a foundation for examining the integration of oral health into overall healthcare and the associated health equity implications. |
