Printing tips
Released as an ASCII file (with related SAS, SPSS, and STATA programming statements) and a SAS transport dataset, this public use file provides information collected on a nationally representative sample of the civilian noninstitutionalized population of the United States for calendar year 2008. This file consists of MEPS survey data obtained in Rounds 3, 4, and 5 of Panel 12 and Rounds 1, 2, and 3 of Panel 13 (i.e., the rounds for the MEPS panels covering calendar year 2008) and consolidates all of the final 2008 person-level variables onto one file. This file contains the following variables previously released on HC-115: survey administration, language of interview variable, demographics, parent identifiers, health status, disability days variables, access to care, employment, quality of care, patient satisfaction, health insurance, and use variables. The HC-121 file also includes these variables: income variables and expenditure variables.

Update Notes
X
Update #5: 05/30/14

The file documentation has been revised with corrected instructions in section 3.5.3 for creating CPS-family estimates. The variable identifying the CPS-family reference person is FCRP1231 and not FAMRFPYR as previously written.

Update #4: 11/22/13

STATA Programming Statements have been added.

Update #3: 03/28/13

The 2008 Full Year Consolidated Data File (HC121) has been updated. Values were updated for the access to care variable, LANGPR42. In addition, 40 new age of diagnosis variables: ADHDAGED, ANGIAGED, ARTHAGED, ASTHAGED, BLDRAGED, BLODAGED, BONEAGED, BRAIAGED, BRSTAGED, CERVAGED, CHDAGED, CHOLAGED, COLOAGED, DIABAGED, EMPHAGED, HIBPAGED, KIDNAGED, LEUKAGED, LIVRAGED, LRNXAGED, LUNGAGED, LYMPAGED, MELAAGED, MIAGED, MOUTAGED, MUSCAGED, OHRTAGED, OTHRAGED, OVRYAGED, PANCAGED, PRSTAGED, RECTAGED, SKDKAGED, SKNMAGED, STOMAGED, STRKAGED, THRTAGED, THYRAGED, TSTSAGED, UTERAGED; and 28 new cancer remission flag variables: BLDRREMS, BLODREMS, BONEREMS, BRAIREMS, BRSTREMS, CERVREMS, COLOREMS, KIDNREMS, LEUKREMS, LIVRREMS, LRNXREMS, LUNGREMS, LYMPREMS, MELAREMS, MOUTREMS, MUSCREMS, OTHRREMS, OVRYREMS, PANCREMS, PRSTREMS, RECTREMS, SKDKREMS, SKNMREMS, STOMREMS, THRTREMS, THYRREMS, TSTSREMS, UTERREMS; were added.

Update #2: 12/22/11

The 2008 Full Year Consolidated Data File (HC121) has been updated to include several new cancer and employment variables. In the original version of HC121, the minimum frequency for the cancer variables was 21; i.e., if fewer than 21 persons were diagnosed with the specific cancer, the variable was excluded from the dataset, and the CAOTHER variable tabulated the infrequently occurring cancer. In the updated version, the threshold has been lowered to 4. Consequently, there are 12 new cancer variables: CABLOOD, CABONE, CABRAIN, CALARYNX, CALIVER, CAMOUTH, CAMUSCLE, CAPANCRS, CARECTUM, CASTOMCH, CATESTIS, CATHROAT, and the value of CAOTHER has also changed to reflect these new variables. In addition, three new start job day variables have been added to the employment variables: STJBDD31, STJBDD42, and STJBDD53.

Update #1: 05/24/11

The 2008 FY Consolidated Data File (HC121) documentation has been updated: in Section 2.5.6.6, Child Health and Preventive Care, the information identifying children eligible for this section has been corrected.
