This public use release is one in a series of public use event files drawn from the 2018 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) Household (HC) and Medical Provider Components (MPC). This release contains 2 data files each of which is provided as an ASCII file with SAS, SPSS, STATA, and R programming statements a SAS transport file, a SAS V9 file, a XLSX file, and a Stata file. File 1 is used for linking the MEPS 2018 condition file (HC-207) with the MEPS 2018 event files (HC-206A through HC-206H); File 2 is used for linking the MEPS 2018 prescribed medicines event file (HC-206A) with other 2018 event files. This release also includes one table provided as PDF file: Table 1, the "MEPS 2018 Condition-Event Frequency" table contains unweighted and weighted counts of records on the MEPS 2018 event files for each of the ICD-10 condition codes and each of the Clinical Classification Software Refined (CCSR) codes on the MEPS 2018 condition file.

Starting in 2018, instead of the XPORT engine, the CPORT procedure is used to create MEPS Public Use Files (PUFS) in transport format (excluding the 2018 Point-in-Time file, HC-036, and HC-036BRR). These CPORT data files (.ssp) cannot be read directly into R or Stata at this time. The ASCII (.dat) data file format can be used instead, along with the corresponding instructions found in the 'Programming Statements' files. In addition, SAS users must use the CIMPORT procedure to restore the transport files (.ssp) into SAS data sets.
