An annual average of 8.6 percent of U.S. children ages 5-17 (about 4.6 million persons) received some type(s) of treatment for mental health disorders in 2007-2009, with 6.7 percent of U.S. children ages 5-17 receiving ambulatory care and 1.8 percent receiving prescription medications during this period. On average, 1.0 percent received other services such as hospital inpatient stays, emergency room visits, or home health care. |
