Evaluating Alternative Benchmarks to Improve Identification of Outlier Drug Prices for Medical Expenditure Panel Survey Prescribed Medicines Data Editing |
Description: |
|
The Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) Prescribed Medicines (PMED) file provides detailed information on prescription drug use and expenditures for a nationally representative sample of people in the U.S. civilian, noninstitutionalized population. Constructing MEPS PMED files using both household- and pharmacy-reported data involves many complex data editing and matching tasks (Hill et al. 2014). In this study, we undertake a detailed examination of one of these tasks: identifying and editing outliers in the retail prices reported by pharmacy providers. |
