This public use file is one in a series of event-level public use files released from the 1996 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey Household Component (MEPS HC). Released as an ASCII data file with SAS, SPSS, and STATA programming statements and as a SAS transport file, this file provides information on home health care for a nationally representative sample of the civilian noninstitutionalized population of the United States and can be used to make estimates of the utilization and expenditures associated with home health care in 1996. This file consists of 1996 data collected in Panel 1, Rounds 1, 2, and 3 of the survey and includes variables describing home health events, including the type of provider, type of services received, length of the visit, reason for the visit, expenditures, and sources of payment.
This public use data set consists of two event-level data files. File 1 contains characteristics associated with the home health event and imputed expenditure variables. File 2 contains unimputed expenditure variables.
