Nursing Home Component data files are not available for public use, but researchers with approved projects can access the files at the AHRQ Data Center.
This bill-level file contains data obtained in Rounds 2 and 3 (covering the full year, for periods that persons were resident in a nursing home), for a sample of 5,899 persons; one record per bill (42,437 bills). This file consists of variables pertaining to charges and payments for basic services (room and board), number of days billed, sources of payment (Medicaid, Medicare, out-of-pocket, private insurance, or other), charges and payments for ancillary services, and corresponding sources of payment. The data items correspond with questions from the Expenditure Questionnaire (the EX questions). Most of the data items provided on this file have been edited or edited and imputed. Data are included on persons sampled as January 1, 1996 residents and those sampled as a 1996 admission to the sampled nursing home. Together these samples represent all persons who used a nursing home any time during 1996.
