Medical Provider Component (MPC) Data Collection Schedule
Annually, the MPC collects data for the following provider types: Hospitals, Office-Based Providers, Institutions,
Home Health Agencies, Pharmacies, and Separately Billing Doctors (SBDs). MPC sample files are extracted from the main
Household sample at several different times during year. These file extractions are called waves.
During 2023 and 2024, collection of 2022 data for MPC provider types was conducted on a staggered schedule. Data
collection for all provider types except Separately Billing Doctors (SBDs) began at the end of January or beginning of
March 2023 and ended in October 2023. Data was collected from Separately Billing Doctors (SBDs) last, with waves
beginning in August 2023 and ending in January 2024. 2022 files for SBDs were collected in four (4) waves. 2022 files
for the rest of the provider types, including pharmacies, were collected in three (3) waves.
