Update #6: 11/22/13
STATA Programming Statements have been added.
Update #5: 12/12/07
The variable FOODCT00 on the HC-050 data file should not be used because it is based on an invalid question in the survey instrument. This question asks "About how much did the family pay each month for food stamps?" when in fact, as of 1979, the food stamp program no longer maintained a purchase requirement. All responses are considered invalid.
Update #4: 03/26/04
The HC-050 data file, document and codebook files have been updated to reflect the following changes: edits (to variable name, label and selected values) for the SAQ and PAQ variables EQU42, CSHCN42, MCS42 and PCS42; edits to the document text describing Health Insurance Eligibility Units (sections 2.5.1 and 3.4) and health status variables including the SAQ and PAQ variables (section 2.5.10), and several minor edits to other sections of the document.
Update #3: 12/24/03
The EXE formatted HC-050 data files (both ASCII and SAS Transport) have been replaced; the previous version was incorrect. The updated version reflects the following changes: edits (to variable name, label and selected values) for the SAQ and PAQ variables EQU42, CSHCN42, MCS42 and PCS42, and addition of the variable SVERLANG. The other versions of the HC-050 data file - the ZIP formatted ASCII version and the ZIP formatted SAS Transport version - and all other document and codebook files, were correct and are not affected by this update.
Update #2: 11/14/03
The Medicaid variables--MCDJA-DE00, MCDJA-DE00X, MCDEV00, MCDHMO31/42/00, MCDMC31/42/00, and WASMCAID -- also include those identified as covered by State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).
Update #1: 09/30/03
The HC-050 data file, document and codebook files have been updated to reflect the following changes: edits (to variable name, label and selected values) for the SAQ and PAQ variables EQU42, CSHCN42, MCS42 and PCS42; edits to the document text describing Health Insurance Eligibility Units (sections 2.5.1 and 3.4) and health status variables including the SAQ and PAQ variables (section 2.5.10), and several minor edits to other sections of the document.
