This public use data file contains jobs-level data from the 2017 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey Household Component (MEPS-HC). Released as an ASCII file with SAS, SPSS, and Stata programming statements, a SAS transport file, a SAS V9 file, a XLSX file, and a Stata file, this public use file provides information collected on a nationally representative sample of the civilian noninstitutionalized population of the United States during the calendar year 2017. The file contains job-level information collected in Round 3-5 for Panel 21 and Rounds 1-3 for Panel 22 of the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (i.e., the rounds for the MEPS panels covering calendar year 2017); it includes variables pertaining to household-reported jobs, including wages, hours, industry, and occupation. For more details on loading MEPS PUFs into R, SAS, and Stata, please visit the MEPS GitHub page. Update Notes
SAS V9, Stata, and XLSX data files have been added.
Update #2: 07/25/19
Documentation was updated to include crosswalks and other information pertaining to the MEPS instrument design change.
Update #1: 03/25/19
The MEPS instrument design changed beginning in Spring of 2018, affecting Panel 23 Round 1, Panel 22 Round 3, and Panel 21 Round 5. For the Full-Year 2017 PUFs, the Panel 22 Round 3 and Panel 21 Round 5 data were transformed to the degree possible to conform to the previous design. For the Full-Year 2018 PUFs, Panel 22 Rounds 1 and 2, collected under the old design, were transformed to the degree possible to conform to the new design. Data users should be aware of possible impacts on the data and especially trend analysis for these data years due to the design transition.
